In 1992, after nearly 10 years traveling the world as a young man, Dale Dziwenka returned to Canada with a wide range of skills and a multitude of life experiences. Settling in Victoria, BC, he started a landscape design / build firm; during the quiet times and slower winters Dale began to explore his passion for sculpting. Over the years, he has spent extended periods working and studying alongside sculptor John McCarthy in his studio in France. There he learned to model, cast, and carve in a variety of medium; most importantly, he developed an artist’s perspective of life. As both a practicing landscape designer and sculptor, Dale has integrated his sculptural abilities into the gardens he creates while applying his knowledge and appreciation of nature into his sculpture. Dale views his work as a journey of discovery, a sharing of energy, and, upon completion, a brief expression of our existence. Variable in weight and dimension, exploring concave and convex forms, most of his pieces are abstractions of the human figure reflecting aspects of life, hope, and humanity. Insight On My Work My sculptures may be based on relationships, the connectivity of all things, and ultimately, life’s ability to find balance in this constant state of flux, and endure. This evolution, the constant movement or sharing of energy can equally be viewed within a frame of time on a molecular level or a universal level. Currently I am exploring human relationships with each other and our planet. I ponder the ability of our brain to create a separation between everything to serve it ‘s own purpose, and how these perceptions are influencing our happiness and existence in society today.
